Life Storage Inc., one of the largest self-storage companies in the world, will soon be opening a new facility in the New England hub of Manchester, NH.
The self-storage giant is taking over part of the former Orsam Sylvania plant, a major factory conversion project helmed by local developers Anagnost Companies and Brady Sullivan Properties.
Boasting an open floorplan and impressive 30ft ceilings, the vacant factory presented an ideal space for an upscale self-storage provider to set up shop. Yet, plans for a state-of-the-art facility with climate-controlled storage units meant there was a serious need to maximize the space. Careful planning and expertise would be key to the conversion's success.

George Hickey, owner of Action Industries and top Cogan dealer, knew exactly how to harness the potential of this blank canvas. Bringing Cogan field rep, Will Wright on board, the team worked closely with Brady Sullivan to supply exactly what the project needed: a custom 22,000 square foot freestanding mezzanine.
Indispensable to the process, George and Will provided complete turnkey service. From the initial proposal to site measurements, approval drawings and permit applications, dealer and manufacturer were there at every stage. Action Industries took charge of the installation for a project that was completed professionally, economically and on schedule.
The result is a fully integrated structural mezzanine that doubles the number of storage units the facility can accommodate. With 800 lockers above and below, Life Storage will be able to provide Manchester residents with safe and affordable storage for their belongings. The freestanding structure also means the facility can grow and change with the community's needs. Units can be modified, removed or consolidated - a significant advantage over a static shelf-supported mezzanine.
As the saying goes, a picture says a thousand words. Check out the slideshow below to see how a freestanding mezzanine has completely transformed this empty space into a fully functional self-storage facility.
